From Happy Healthy Hip Parenting

I’ve lived in San Diego for seventeen years now, but every time I have a friend come visit me here, I turn into a tourist since there is SO much to explore and SO many wonderful restaurants and bars to discover. Plus, it seems like they keep adding more and the Liberty Public Market at Liberty Station is one of the more recent places I’ve been meaning to check out.

When bloggers come to Southern California, they do it right. Staci, a good friend who I met at a conference a few years back, was scheduled to fly here for an event and was able to extend her trip by a few days so she and I could have a much-needed girls’ weekend all to ourselves, which included a challenge of eating & drinking our way through San Diego.

LIBERTY PUBLIC MARKET

Liberty Station Public Market

BITE San Diego, the #1 rated food tour company in San Diego, hooked us up with tickets to the Saturday tour which takes place at Liberty Station in Pt. Loma. If you’re not familiar with this area, it’s best to get there via UBER or Lyft since Liberty Station is so huge, you’re bound to not only get lost, but you might not have much luck finding parking since it’s such a hot spot to be, especially on the weekends.

POINT LOMA TEA

The first stop on the food tour at Liberty Station was Point Loma Tea. I’ve never considered myself to be a tea drinker, but I know that’s because I don’t know enough about it. While there, we sampled delicious and refreshing iced tea as we learned more about the many different flavor combinations I never knew existed.

STUFFED!

Next, we made our way into the hectic Liberty Public Market where our food tour guide picked up our sliders from STUFFED! which had me craving a beer. Luckily, while we were waiting, I was able to walk over to Bottlecraft, where I was able to pick up a small beer sample. Inside our outside, you can enjoy your beer wherever you are within the Liberty Public Market area.

Fully Loaded Micro Juicery

San Diego does healthy right, so we stopped at the micro juicery (across from the meat market) for small samples of their 100% raw, organic, cold-pressed juices which are made with local ingredients and made fresh daily.

Venissimo Cheese

You can’t visit the Liberty Public Market without stopping to enjoy some amazing cheese samples from all over the world. There are several Venissimo Cheese locations around San Diego, and this one is just like the others in that the people who work there know a thing or two about cheese and are happy to help you find the right variety to bring home. There were three different cheese samples provided to us on the food tour and they were each equally delicious.

Slater’s 50/50

Next, on the BITE San Diego food tour, we left the Liberty Public Market and walked over to Slater’s 50/50 where we enjoyed some hot wings, brussels sprouts (with bacon, of course) and deep fried mac and cheese. So, so good.

Solare Ristorante

Finally, the grand finale of the 3-hour walking food tour led us to the Winner of San Diego Magazine’s “Best Chef & Best Italian Restaurant,” Solare, with a focus on Sicilian dishes and ingredients. No doubt, this was a great way to end the food feast for the day, as we were truly treated to a fantastic fare.

BITE San Diego Food Tours

Besides the food tour at Liberty Station, there are seven more San Diego walking tours provided across the county. I plan on getting the passport they offer and visiting each and every one of these stops over the next year. What a great way to learn about certain areas, get a little exercise in between meals which are brought to your already reserved table and enjoy a great meal with friends or family.

One thing to note, the cost of the tickets for the food tours covers the food only. If you want to purchase beer or cocktails at each stop, you’ll want to bring cash or credit card to cover this along with any tips you provide to the very helpful waitstaff from each venue.

The Liberty Station food tour did last over three hours long. It began at 2pm and went until just around 5:30pm. Each location has tours scheduled on different days of the weeks and starting at different times.

Visit the Bite San Diego website to learn more about each tour and what you can expect from each one.
